MEET THE CAST
Navada Aaron (Ensemble) This is Navada's first Encore production and first musical and she is ecstatic to share her Alma Mater stage with her Ragtime family. Navada was recently seen in Carson-Newman University's Theatre as Darlene in The Diviners. Navada says "I want to thank my family and my boyfriend for constant support and reassurance in my passion! Enjoy the show!"
Thomas Bass (Grandfather)- This production marks the Encore debut for Thomas, who acted quite a bit many years ago in high school and college but only lately became involved once again in theater. His most recent role was Arvide Abernathy (the grandfather!) in Guys and Dolls at Carson-Newman University, where he is a professor of mathematics (not Greek and Latin). Thanks to Julia, Joseph, and Rachel for their support this summer and always!
Ben Bean (Ensemble) - Ben is thrilled to be back with Encore! Ben recently received his MA from Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance in London, England. He also received his BA in Theatre from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Some favorite past credits include: Sylum (Marassa, RBC), The Winters’ Tale (Polixenes, RBC), Gertrude: The Cry (Hamlet, RBC), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Fairy, CBT), and Les Miserables (Joly, Encore). Ben would like to thank his parents, Benjamin and Irene, for their undying support, his best friends, Adam, Candace, Jordan, and Emma, as well as the cast and crew for their constant encouragement, and Micah-Shane for allowing him to be in yet another wonderful production! Zathrus Beeler (Ensemble) - Zathrus Beeler is a multi-talented performing artist. He is currently studying at Walters State Community College. He is working on his last year in majoring in Musical Theater. Zathrus is very excited and proud to say that Ragtime is his debut with Encore. “It’s such an honor to be working with such unique and inspiring individuals that are so talented!! I can’t wait to spread the Ragtime tune with the world.”
Jon Bell (Willie Conklin, Ensemble) - John is excited to be in his second Encore production. John has performed many concerts with various collegiate and professional ensembles. While attending ETSU, he toured internationally with the ETSU Chorale. John currently teaches voice lessons, directs music at Trinity United Methodist Church in Greeneville, and will be pursuing his Masters’ Degree in the fall. “I would like to thank my lovely wife, Sarah, for loving and supporting me in every season of life.”
Byron Booker (Ensemble) - Byron is thrilled to be making his Encore debut in Ragtime. His previous credits include "load in" with his pals Russ and Frank, prop shopping 24/7 with his wife Heidi, and helping his "favorite" young star Parker in any way she needs him. Byron extends his thanks to the Encore family for introducing him to the crazy world of theatre.
Taylor Branson (Ensemble) - Taylor is proud to be a part of her second production with Encore Theatrical Company. She was seen previously in the ETC ensemble of Shrek the Musical in 2014. Thanks to Micah-Shane for the opportunity to perform, and to her family and friends who support and love her second to none. Taylor is thrilled to perform alongside such a talented cast, crew and orchestra, and hopes you love this story as much as she does! Enjoy the show!
Mikki Brooks (Ensemble) - Mikki is excited to return to the Encore stage for the third time. She was Stepmother in Into the Woods and Ensemble in A Christmas Story. She is team leader of Creative Arts at Manley church, a Family Nurse Practitioner with Healthstar Physicians, and she co-owns Esprit Medical Spa. She appreciates her family’s encouragement and she is a follower of Christ, who has showered blessings on her life.
Susan Christophel (Ensemble) - Susan has been performing on area stages for about 27 years. She was most recently seen in the role of Sally in Follies and as Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret. Other roles include Madame Thenardier in Les Miserables, Sonia in Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike, Ivy in August: Osage County, Hold Me Touch Me in The Producers, Yvonne in Sunday in the Park with George, Sarah in Company, Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd, and in the ensemble of Merrily We Roll Along. She is a founding company member of Encore Theatrical Company, and the 2014 inductee into the Encore Hall of Fame. She is most proud of her children, Abby & Graham, not so much for their good looks and smarts, but for growing up into such good human beings.
Becky Collins (Ensemble) - Becky is appearing in her second Encore production. She was last seen as Katie Nanna/Ensemble in Mary Poppins. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Washington State University. Favorite previous roles include Miss Dorothy in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, and Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls.
Joyce Cotner (Ensemble) - This is Joyce’s first production with Encore Theatrical Group, but she is not a stranger to the stage. Joyce was a thespian in the Meade High School Drama Club (Ft. Meade Maryland) where she participated in Bye, Bye Birdie and A Tale Tell Heart. She later scored roles in What in the Hell Do You Want (Carmonsense Productions), Let Freedom Ring (Optasia Productions) & Single Ladies (Sche’ Productions). Joyce has also appeared in several episodes of TV1’s Fatal Attraction (Jupiter Entertainment) and is a freelance EXTRA’s actor. Joyce looks forward to being part of the Encore Theatrical family.
Aletheia Davidson (Ensemble) - Aletheia is excited to make her onstage debut in the musical Ragtime. This will be her sixth show with Encore, as she can usually be found behind the scenes – most recently as Stage Manager for Time Stands Still. Aletheia would like to thank Micah-Shane for this opportunity to work with such a wonderful and talented cast and crew. She would also like to thank her husband for his encouragement and support.
Carlos Deleon (Ensemble) - Carlos is thrilled to be making his debut with Encore! Carlos resides in Knoxville where he spends his Monday nights singing with the Knoxville Gay Men's Chorus. They have been a huge part of his life the previous two years, and he wouldn't be the same without them. Carlos would like to say a big thank you to MSB and Seth for this opportunity, and also to his fellow cast mates for the unforgettable experience!
Molly Doss (Ensemble) - Molly is so excited to be in her second Encore show, especially such a special one! You may have seen her previously as Suzy in Marvelous Wonderettes at the Oak Ridge Playhouse, Regina in Rock of Ages at Johnson City Community Theatre, and Charlotte in 13 the Musical at Kingsport Theatre Guild to name a few! She wants to thank her parents for their support and sacrifice and Micah Shane for another wonderful opportunity! She hopes for many more! Thank you to the cast and crew and everyone involved! Enjoy the show! Immigrants, we get the job done!
Natalee Elkins (Mother) - Natalee is thrilled to be back on the Encore stage. Favorite shows include: Shrek (Fiona) and Legally Blonde (Paulette). Natalee holds her undergraduate degree from the UTK in Vocal Performance where she was also a Grace Moore Vocal Scholar. She is now a frequent soloist for concerts and cabarets in the Knoxville area, mostly recently at the Tennessee Theatre. “Thanks to MSB, the ETC crew, and my amazing family! Love to my Lillian Marie for making me a Mother!”
Makenzie Emmert (Ensemble) - Makenzie has acquired numerous credits from various theatre companies nationwide (National Youth Theatre, Barter Theatre, Theater Bristol...). She most recently starred in Walters State’s Grease (Rizzo) and in Encore’s Mary Poppins! Makenzie is also a dual-enrolled member of Walters State Community College’s choirs and currently teaches dance at Dance Elite.
Scott Penn Farris (Ensemble) - Scott is excited to be making his stage debut in Encore's Ragtime. He would like to thank Micah-Shane for taking a chance casting him and giving him this fantastic opportunity. Scott has an extensive musical background including playing the trumpet in the UT marching band plus singing and dancing in UT Singers. New favorite mantra: If Not Now, When?
Kayla Fielder (Ensemble) - Kayla holds a B.A. in theatre and French from East TN State University and is glad to be making her Encore debut. She would like to thank MSB for this opportunity. Previous favorite roles include Thea in Spring Awakening, Mrs. Krebs in Inherit the Wind, and Doctor/Lawyer in Gianni Schicchi. “Happy 2nd anniversary, John! Thanks for your support and encouragement to do theatre again. I love you.”
Jamel Fletcher (Harlem Ensemble, Haitian Immigrant, Women at Vigil)- This is Jamel’s official debut of the Encore production Ragtime. She also had a small role in a local play in her hometown of Knoxville, TN Going Home Another Way in 2014. Jamel is a wife and mother of two children 11 and 17. Being a part of this experience has really given Jamel an experience that she has grown to love, and has aspired to be a part of the Encore family or to continue theater work sporadically as a hobby. Her family has been a big support in this endeavor.
Rebekah Frith (Ensemble) - Rebekah was last seen as Cha-Cha in Walters State's production of Grease, where she is also studying to be a theater major. She is very blessed to be a part of such a great and talented cast, and would like to thank Micah-Shane for the opportunity and her mom for all the love and support.
Antonio Gomez (Coalhouse Walker, Jr.) - Antonio is making his debut Encore’s Ragtime as Coalhouse Walker Jr. He studied voice and piano at Carson-Newman College but has always had a heart for theatre. He teaches different subjects at Community Christian Academy and travels with different contemporary artists/songwriters as a music director. “I was glad Encore reached out to me and I’m very excited to be a part of a wonderful and ‘timely’ production.”
Dylan Henry (Ensemble) - Relatively new to the theatre world, Dylan made his first appearance in the Walters State's Grease as Sonny LaTierri. Dylan is thrilled to make his Encore debut by bringing to life a variety of characters from all walks of life. He hopes that you enjoy the performance and that it can help shed light on the struggles from not long ago that still haunt us to this day.
Cheyenne Hewitt (Little Girl) - Cheyenne is thrilled to be a part of her 7th Encore production, her most recent being Peter Pan, Jr. She is a 12-year old homeschooler going into the 8th grade. She spends most of her time dancing in multiple genres at Precision Dance Center of the Arts. She would like to thank Micah-Shane Brewer for casting her and her mom for carting her around from dance to rehearsal. She hopes you enjoy all the "NEW MUSIC" Ragtime has to offer.
Parker Jenkins (Younger Brother) - Parker, a UT Graphic Design major and Theatre minor, is honored to be making his debut with Encore Theatrical Company in this moving piece of theatre close to his heart. Previous credits include: Violet (Leroy Evans/Radio Soloist/Ensemble), Mr. Burns, A Post Electric Play (Matt/Homer), The Threepenny Opera (Weeping-Willow Walt/Ensemble), and Monty Python’s Spamalot (Ensemble) - all with the Clarence Brown Theatre. Other favorite productions include Godspell (Parker) and Bare: A Pop Opera (Alan). Parker would like to thank his family, friends, and educators for all the tough love and encouragement he has needed throughout his artistic pursuits. He would also like to thank his director, Micah-Shane, for this cherished opportunity as well his mentoring and friendship through Parker's career in the theatre. Glory to God!
Rauelle Kelly (Sarah) - Rauelle is very excited to be a part of her first Encore Theatrical Company production. She is currently a sophomore at the University of Tennessee majoring in Social Work and also assistant director of Love United Gospel Choir. This opportunity has been a very enjoyable and she would like to thank Encore Theatrical Company for this opportunity and everyone who has supported her.
Daniel R. Lineberger (Harry Houdini) - Daniel feels right at home embodying the Jewish guy with mommy issues in a straight-jacket. Select theatre credits include: Cabaret (Emcee), Guys and Dolls (Nicely), A Chorus Line (Mike), Hello, Dolly! (Barnaby). Favorite dance credits: Swan Lake (Von Rothbart), Romeo & Juliet (Mercutio). Theme Park: Dollywood, Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Film/TV: “October Sky,” “Unsolved Mysteries,” “SNAPPED: Killer Couples.”
Jim Lumpkins (Ensemble) - Jim is happy to be back on stage in his second Encore production. Credits include Les Miserables, Fiddler on the Roof, The King and I, Annie, I Do, I Do, Side by Side by Sondheim, and many others. In real life, Jim is a local massage therapist who specializes in reducing pain and stress. He is a life-long learner who believes that lifestyle choices have the greatest impact on happiness and longevity.
Alexis Nicole Manning (Ensemble) - Alexis was last seen as an enchantress and a dish in Beauty and the Beast. She has appeared in many Encore productions including Camp Rock, Jr. (Star camper), The Little Mermaid Jr (Chef), and Miracle on 34th Street (Elf). She is married and has a beautiful little girl. She attends Walters State where she will be graduating in a year with an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood. She is thrilled to be a part of Ragtime! Enjoy!!
Arthur McAfee (Harlem Ensemble) - Arthur is elated to be a part of his first Encore Theatrical Production. His Musical Credits include 42nd Street, Hairspray, Guys and Dolls, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Annie, The Wizard of Oz, and the The Wiz. As a Knoxville Opera member, he has been in several productions including Mefistofele and Tosca, and Maria Stuarda. Arthur studies under the tutelage of Lorraine DiSimone. This past Fall he made his debut with UT Opera Theatre as L'umana Fragilita in their production of Il Ritorno de Ulisse in Patria. He was also a Semi-finalist in the NATS Mid-South Competition. He is a Junior finishing his Bachelor of Music in Church Music and Communications at The University of Tennessee. Arthur would like to thank his family and friends for the generous amounts of encouragement and support, and most importantly the man above for blessing him with the opportunity. TOI, TOI, TOI!
Steven McCoy (Ensemble) - Steven, 20, most recently appeared in Carson-Newman University's production of Noises Off as Garry/Roger and also appeared in Walters’ State Community College's Grease as Roger. Thankful to have broken his streak of playing characters named Roger, Steven is absolutely thrilled to be part of one of his favorite shows of all time. He would like to thank everyone who made this show possible and Encore Theatrical Company for giving him the tools and space he needed to grow as a storyteller.
Matthew E. Mimbs (Tateh) - Matt is thrilled to be playing a dream role in his favorite show. Other Encore productions include Follies (Young Ben), Into the Woods (Rapunzel's Prince), 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (William Barfee), Legally Blonde: The Musical (Emmett), Sunday in the Park with George (Franz/Lee Randolph), Hairspray (H.F. Spritzer/Mr. Pinky). He has also been behind and beneath the stage, serving as Assistant Stage Manager for Noises Off and The Dixie Swim Club and Music Director for The Full Monty and The Little Mermaid, Jr. He holds a music degree with a minor in theatre from Carson-Newman University, where he was seen onstage in Seussical: The Musical (Horton the Elephant), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Trevor Graydon, III), My Fair Lady (Freddy Eynsford-Hill), and The Secret Garden (Ben). "I want to say a huge thank you to Micah-Shane for this opportunity, and also to Drew, Amy, Seth, and Natalee. Welcome to Ragtime!”
Candace Moore (Ensemble) - Candace is thrilled to be a part of her 3rd Encore production! Although from Knoxville, she often finds herself drawn back to Morristown to make art with her theatre family. She was last seen in Walters State’s The Crucible as Elizabeth Proctor. However, you can usually find her directing shows such as The Vagina Monologues, The Pillowman, and The Idiot Box. She would like to thank Micah-Shane for giving her this opportunity. Also, thanks to Emma, Ben, Jordan, TJ, and Parker for their support.
Paige Munroe-Mattocks (Ensemble) - Paige was last seen as Francesca in The Bridges of Madison County and is always thrilled to appear on the Encore stage. Some favorite credits include August: Osage County (Karen), Vanya, Sonya, Masha, and Spike (Masha), Dixie Swim Club (Lexie), Crimes of the Heart (Meg), as well as roles in Follies, Les Miserables, Love, Loss, and What I Wore, and Hairspray, among others. She is a member of Encore's Company, and extends appreciation to our stage manager, cast mates and everyone involved in the production.
Dewayne Nelson (Booker T. Washington) – DeWayne is thrilled to be making his stage debut in Encore’s Ragtime. He is Minister of Music at Rock of Ages Baptist Church and is in pharmaceutical sales. He loves all types of music, is a sports fanatic and plays basketball with the guys. He is proud to share the stage with his son, Jacob.
Jacob Nelson (Little Coalhouse) - Jacob is 4 years old. This is his first appearance in an Encore play. He is currently in the pre-school program at Baptist Tabernacle. He loves cars, trucks, dinosaurs and superheroes, especially Spiderman and the Hulk. Jacob loves to play basketball, soccer, and football. He hopes to play AYSO soccer this Fall.
Chris Phipps (Ensemble) - Chris is thrilled to be a part of the Ragtime ensemble and his second Encore production. As a former performing arts student at Jeff county, he is excited to perform on the stage that had been a dream for many years. He was previously in Encore's Follies. Aside from constantly singing, Chris enjoys playing softball and hiking.
Isiah Rankin (Ensemble) - Isiah is a senior at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, where he studies Music Education, with a focus in voice. He is currently the director of the Love United Gospel Choir, and the praise and worship leader for Collegiate Black Christians (CBC). In his free time, Isiah likes to sing, dance, read, hang out with friends, and watch television. He hopes to further his studies in either Music Therapy or Music Education, eventually becoming a vocal coach at a university.
Tim Reynolds (Father) - Tim is grateful to make his Encore debut with such a talented and welcoming cast. His favorite roles are husband to Tuesday and father to Seth and Lily Grace. My gratitude to MSB for this opportunity and to my family for letting me play.
Jim Richardson (J.P. Morgan) - Jim, who was seen most recently as Bud in Encore’s Bridges of Madison County and as another Bud(dy) in last season’s Follies, is a graduate of UT’s theatre department and a veteran actor of more than 110 productions. Jim extends a big thanks to everyone involved in this show, both onstage and off, on either side of the footlights, for working so hard to bring forth the magic of theatre; only through the magic of theatre could someone so poor play someone so wealthy.
Tomi Robb (Sarah’s Friend) - This is Tomi's first show with Encore Theatrical Company. You may have most recently seen her as Geneva Lee Browne at Oak Ridge Playhouse last Christmas or as Alice in The WordPlayers production of Big River at the Bijou last summer. Tomi is excited about this opportunity with this wonderful cast. It is a privilege to perform, and in all things thanks be to God.
Stephen Smith (Henry Ford) - Stephen has had the good fortune to be onstage in five Encore shows, including A Christmas Carol: The Musical (Bob Cratchit), A Christmas Story, The Musical (Santa), Mary Poppins (Park Keeper), and was in the Ensemble of One Man, Two Guvnors and The Bridges of Madison County, and has also enjoyed working with the backstage crew on several other Encore shows. “Thanks to my family for their support, and MSB, Seth, and the cast for a great experience!”
Meg Sutherland (Ensemble) – Meg is delighted to be making her debut with Encore in this beautiful production. Born and raised in Nashville, TN, she is rising Senior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, pursuing degrees in Communication Studies & Theatre. Some of her favorite past credits include: “Marlene” (Top Girls), “Joanne” (Company), "Ashleigh Whitford" (Horse Girls), The Vagina Monologues, and Rent. She would like to thank her family and friends for their constant encouragement. Many thanks to Micah-Shane for giving her this opportunity, and to this marvelous cast and crew for their commitment to sharing this poignant story. Elliott Tucker (Little Boy) - Elliott is very excited about his first appearance with Encore Theatrical Company, and would like to thank Micah-Shane Brewer for this wonderful opportunity. Elliott first appeared on stage at Tusculum College at the age of 8, and for the past four years has been in numerous Theatre-at-Tusculum productions with his most recent being Disney's My Son Pinocchio, Jr. Elliott just completed his second year in Broadway Comes to Greeneville at Niswonger Performing Arts Center, where he shared the stage with Broadway stars in an effort to raise money for the Niswonger Children's Hospital. Elliott also loves playing piano, playing percussion in the sixth-grade band, singing, and most of all being a member of G.L.A.W.P.I.G.T. (Great Literature Alive, Well, and Playing in Greeneville, TN) a performing arts group under the expertise of Marilyn duBrisk and Brian Ricker.
Scott Waisner (Ensemble) - Scott is excited to be back with his Encore family for his 7th (?) show! Scott fell in love with theatre in college, and has never gotten over it. Some of his favorite roles include Raterio in Snake Beneath the Flower, Kolenkhov in You Can't Take It with You and Todd in Unnecessary Farce. He would like to thank his family for putting up with all this insanity, and MSB for another great show.
Susan Waisner (Emma Goldman) - Susan is an ESL teacher in Sevier County Schools. Other productions include The Diary of Anne Frank (Edith Frank), Miracle on 34th Street (Doris Walker), and In His Steps (Virginia Page). She is excited to share the stage with her husband for her first actual musical, and would like to thank their children, Faith, Braden, and Corinne, for their patience this summer. She knows they will pay her back in triplicate this fall.
Brittany Lashay Walker (Ensemble, Atlantic City Band, and Women of Vigil)-Brittany is 15 years old and a student at Morristown East High School. Brittany is in Advance Chorus at her school and was last seen in the production, The Lion King, Jr. (Young Nala). Brittany actively attends Hope at The Gap, where she is on the worship team and sings most Sundays. She has been in many Encore productions like: Camp Rock Jr, Little Mermaid Jr, Beauty and the Beast, and Miracle of 34th Street. Sit back and enjoy Ragtime!!
Jasmine Walker (Ensemble) - Jasmine is so excited to be working with Encore again by doing this amazing show. This would make her 3rd show with this wonderful theatrical company. She was in Hairspray (Ensemble) and Camp Rock, Jr. (Peggy). She would like to thank her family and friends for all their love and support. Jasmine would like to thank you all for coming out and hopes that you not only enjoy the show but also get something out of it.
Troy Wallen (Ensemble) - Troy was last seen on Encore’s stage as Don Blades in Encore Theatrical Company’s Production of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man. This is his 15th company production with Encore Theatrical Company. He feels very strongly about being involved with Community Theatre and having the youth involved in the Arts. Troy is thankful to be a part of this production and have the opportunity to perform with such a wonderful cast and production team.
Debra Williams (Ensemble) - Debra is a founding Company Member of Encore and has been involved, in some capacity, with every Encore production since the beginning. She is excited to be returning to the stage for Ragtime, one of her favorite musicals, and she hopes the message in the music will touch your hearts as it has touched hers. In the real world, Debra is the General Manager of the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce.
Kathryn E. Wright (Evelyn Nesbitt) - Kathryn is BA graduate of UTK. She's ecstatic to be performing with Encore again. Past Encore shows include Rock of Ages, Follies, and Cabaret. Other past favorites include the CBT’s Spamalot, Sweeney Todd, Kiss Me Kate, and A Christmas Carol and PSCC’s The Curate Shakespeare’s As You Like It, The Kentucky Cycle: Part I, The Servant of Two Masters, and Widdershins.
